Peter is a talented young man, perhaps a little naive but ready for adventure. This took him to a country downunder where he experienced love, romance and bitterness. There were several suitors for Aroha, all prepared to do what was necessary to have her. Nigel Ballantyne was the most persistent, BUT it didn't have to end like this

“STAY WHERE YOU ARE! DON’T MOVE!”
Peter panicked; he tried to push past them. They threw him to the ground mercilessly like a steer at a Rodeo. The Police struggled with him until he was subdued, then they put on handcuffs.
“Not another one of these domestics,” said one Policeman. “Where's your place?”
Peter didn't say anything, as they helped him to his feet; he was too shocked, and remorse had started to seep in, unforgiving remorse for not being there for his wife. He just indicated the doorway to the flat with a nod of his head. The Police went into the apartment, where they found Aroha. Peter had remained outside, where he had sobered up very quickly. He went to his boys to comfort them; the events had traumatized Ben and Jake. The Police turned on him like hyenas suspecting him as the culprit. One Officer grabbed him by the right arm and pulled Peter out of Ben and Jake's room.
“You did this didn’t you?” they accused him.

Dan Davidson - Author
Crystal Lilly is a wonderful read. The author manages to pull the reader into the story right from the start. It’s a love story but more than that, it is a story about human frailties and heartbreak. The Protagonist, Peter, is a complex but vulnerable character. The reader is taken on a journey from the United States to New Zealand, to “Down Under” and eventually returning to the United States. The author’s description is fantastic, you feel like you are there experiencing it all, just like Peter. The pace of the narrative is quick and holds the reader’s interest from beginning to end.

Tellan knew the Mylos were in need of fresh genetic trade. The humans of Earth were a bit less advanced socially and technologically than their past trade partners, so great care had to be taken when offering treaty terms. If all went smoothly, he'd soon see human institutions of higher learning teaching Mylos science and philosophy and Bride Registry Centres open across the globe. Then the Bride Fleet assigned to Earth would arrive and Tellan could return home for less fraught diplomatic duties.
On 23rd March 1844, General Tom Thumb, at 25 inches tall, entered the Picture Gallery at Buckingham Palace and bowed low to Queen Victoria. On both sides of the Atlantic, this event marked a tipping point in the nineteenth century - the age of the freak was born. Bewitching all levels of society, it was a world of astonishing spectacle - of dwarfs, giants, bearded ladies, Siamese twins and swaggering showmen - and one that has since inspired countless novels, films and musicals. But the real stories of the performing men, women and children, have been forgotten or marginalised in the histories of the very people who exploited them. In this richly evocative account, Dr John Woolf uses a wealth of newly discovered materials to bring to life the often tragic, sometimes triumphant but always extraordinary stories of people who used their disabilities and difference to become some of the first international celebrities. Giving a voice to the voiceless, The Wonders uncovers the birth of show business, celebrity, advertising and ‘alternative facts’, and explores the tensions between the power of fame, the impact of exploitation and our fascination with ‘otherness’.
“A promising young historian with a taste for the exotic.” Stephen Fry
“Historically, freak show performers have been reduced to mere objects of fascination, but by focusing on the details of their lives, Woolf here gives voice to the members of this long-exploited minority.” The Times Literary Supplement
Dr John Woolf is a historian and researcher. He has recently co-written the bestselling audiobook Stephen Fry’s Victorian Secrets. Having read history at the University of Cambridge, John went on to obtain a PhD on nineteenth-century freak shows. Since then John has developed the BBC4 series The Real Tom Thumb: History’s Smallest Superstar, has featured on the BBC4 documentary Dwarfs in Art and was Assistant Producer for Queen Victoria’s Letters: A Monarch Unveiled. In 2017, The Wonders was awarded the Biographers’ Club Tony Lothian Prize for the best proposal for an uncommissioned first biography. Lifting the Curtain on the Freak Show, Circus and Victorian Age
I learnt about ‘General Tom Thumb’, one of the world’s first international celebrities, a dwarf whose real name was Charles Stratton; Julia Pastrana, the so-called ‘Baboon Lady’, who was embalmed by her showman-cum-husband and who continued to display Pastrana after she died during childbirth; Daniel Lambert, one of the first notorious Fat Men on display; Chang and Eng Bunker, The Siamese Twins, who became slave-owning farmers and fathers of the American South. I discovered these characters and many more. I was hooked.
I returned to Cambridge, got my degree and immediately embarked on a PhD at Goldsmiths, exploring nineteenth-century freak shows under the wonderful supervision of Dr Vivienne Richmond with Professor Jan Plamper as my supportive second supervisor.
After an alien targets his family, Brad Johnson, an entrepreneur, finds himself on an off-world adventure, relying on his skills to survive an intergalactic war. As Brad struggles to understand the conflict between the aliens, as well as his place in the universe, he learns one group threatens Earth's security and the other wants something entirely different.
Gottlieb does a very good job portraying the alien culture Brad finds himself in. The
stagnant and bureaucratic CIG, who are more concerned with the expenditure of munitions than the safety of their pilots and soldiers created great tension against Brad's innate sense of innovation and creativity. Add in some spies and convoluted procedures, and it's no wonder some aliens chose to hide out on earth.
Brad Johnson experiences a UFO sighting, followed by a firefight, destroying everything he thought he knew about his family and pulls him into an intergalactic battle between two space-faring alien groups. All Brad wants to do is to survive and return home with his family, but not until he embarks on the greatest adventure of his life.
I was born in Texas and lived all over the world, literally. I joined the Navy after college and retired after a number of years. I'm married with two children and currently have a desk job in Washington D.C. Nothing too exciting, except over the years I would occasionally make a few attempts at writing fiction. It's something that has always been in the back of my mind as something to do in my spare time, however, never a priority. Four years ago, I made a commitment to finish a story that had been floating in the recesses of my brain. I finally reached a point where I believe I can proudly share it with the public.
Currently, I am working on a sequel to Connor's Gambit. The story takes place approximately 3 years in the future from the first book. The book will have the main characters from Connor's Gambit on a dire mission leaving Earth defenseless.
I have finished two short stories for The Wolfpack Authors Anthology, Once Upon a Wolfpack. All proceeds for the first Anthology goes to the Lockwood Animal Rescue Organization. Lockwood rescues wolves and helps rehabilitate veterans through the rescuing of wolves. Its a hefty book with 17 writing pieces all with theme theme of wolves. The second Anthology will be out in December.

How I came to write this Novel
Inspired by author, code breaker and screenwriter Leo Marks, Birth of a Spy follows the life of Scott Hunter, an unemployed maths graduate with a rare talent for decoding Second World War Enigma messages. An unexpected and indecipherable code threatens to change Hunter’s life and the lives of those around him forever.
Birth of a Spy, my debut novel is currently available on Amazon where it receives almost unanimous 5 star reviews. Readers have said; "a modern take on the classic spy novel,” “crying out for a sequel,” “gripping page turner,” “fast paced thriller,” with one reader even likening it to a John le Carré. I have been interviewed about the book for BBC Radio and Keith Bruce at The Herald wrote a double page spread in the paper’s Arts Supplement. Birth of a Spy is the first in a series, with the second book in its final stages. Absent Friends is set in London, Istanbul, Moscow, Hong Kong and Caithness with Scott Hunter embarking on his first assignment.
Birth of a spy
Out of work Cambridge graduate Scott Hunter breaks Second World War Enigma codes… for fun. His girlfriend's desperate for him to find a job and settle down, so when a fresh code lands unexpectedly on Scott’s doorstep, he promises it will be his last, little realising that revealing the dark secrets it has protected for over fifty years will shatter their lives forever.

From the Author
When I see around it seems the world is very close to the danger. Activated monsters in well known things are laughing at the human civilization and no one is serious to make the people aware of the future darkness. Maybe I could be the one who is trying to let everyone know machines can be silent killers to billions because their artificial brains have secrets.

About the Author...
Hiep Thi Le was born in 1971 one of seven children in Da Nang, Vietnam. At the tender age of eight, she and her younger sister stowed away on a fishing boat, believing their mother was aboard. It was a perilous journey which landed the sisters in the first of several refugee camps. Hiep's family was eventually reunited years later in northern California. Once in the US, Hiep taught herself to read and write English. She was educated at Oakland high school and studied pre-med at the University of California, Davis. It was during college that on a whim she agreed to accompany her sister and friends to an open casting call for the Oliver Stone film Heaven and Earth. Hiep was surprised to receive a call back the following week. After an arduous five-month audition including thousands of applicants for the lead role, the part was hers.
Following Heaven and Earth, Hiep continued to act in several films and television shows. In 2002 she began a second career in the restaurant business, first as a chef at China Beach Bistro in Venice Beach and later as both chef and owner of Le Cellier in Marina Del Rey. Hiep courageously battled stomach cancer and died at the age of 46 in early 2018. She is survived by her husband, their two children and her parents.
Above all, Hiep was the proud mother of two.
The project is being managed by Hiep's friend and business partner, Jill Powell.
Le, Hiep Thi. Daughter of the Sea: My Voyage to Freedom and Womanhood. Young Adult Nonfiction: Matchstick: 2019. Developmental writer. Memoir of an 8-year old "boat person" who flees post-war communist Vietnam in search of a father and brother rumored to have escaped to the West. Braving sea storms and pirates in an overloaded fishing boat, Hiep and her younger sister are rescued by British sailors and interned in a series of horrific Hong Kong refugee camps. Surviving by their wits, these displaced children of the sea create their own primitive society amid the dispirited and desperate adults awaiting sponsors in the U.S. Finally settling in California, Hiep's family is reunited only to confront the promise and perils of modern America. Especially meaningful to young readers struggling to find their own identities, Daughter of the Sea depicts an epic, extraordinary journey from East to West, from childhood lost to premature adulthood and the rebirth of a most remarkable young woman.
Jill Powell was and is the representative and co-founder of Hiep Thi Le’s wishes to publish her book Daughter of the Sea at www.DaughteroftheSea.net and she also Published Mr. Duck that is in revision about a story her mother use to tell her and her siblings as a bedtime story.
Jill Powell has worked over 30 years with People with Intellectual Disabilities , HUD projects and non-profits. Hiep and Jill met through a correspondence from Chopped in 2014. Jill had adopted a son from Vietnam and was searching for books related to his culture that she could not find in USA.
Hiep was my mentor, motivator and inspiration as valiantly fought the first bought of cancer but lost the battle two years ago at the age of 46.
I miss her daily.

This book also carries such messages which can be implemented in our daily lives. Some of them are:
I got to know some Vietnamese cultures such as naming a child from this memoir. The author didn't hesitate to describe the cultures and rituals she has experienced in her life. Her refugee life in Hong Kong was very heart touching.
This review will not be enough if I don't talk about the writing style of the author. While reading the book, it seems like the author is talking directly to the reader. This strategy will definitely help to maintain the reader's engagement. She switches from one topic to another very smoothly. It's difficult for a writer to describe a child's dream. But the author perfectly did it. The "simplicity" element in her writing style gives a more realistic vibe to the reader. Her writing style reflects that it took so many years to write this masterpiece.
When it comes to the recommendation, this book ticks all the checkpoints and so it can be recommended to the readers of all the genres. This is a "must taste" piece for the memoir/ biography/ autobiography lovers. Even a person who usually doesn't like to read books will also love this book. The author didn't use any vulgar or profane words in this book. So a minor can read this book without a doubt.
You might laugh, you might wonder could possibly happen next, or you might decide to hide under a blanket. Even though most stories in this anthology may only take you a few minutes to read, chances are good that you won’t forget them anytime soon.

Storyline. Coop Malloy receives a telegram that his sister and brother-in-law have died and Kallie, his ten-year-old niece, is on her way to Texas to live with him.
Still reeling from the loss of his sister, he receives another shock when his childhood friend Randa Lockhart steps off the stage with Kallie. He’s stunned to see that the little pigtailed nuisance that tagged after him and his best friend years ago has turned into a beautiful young woman.
Randa and Kallie have barely settled in when Coop finds buffalo hunter Marvin Doolin beating the local blacksmith within an inch of his life for laming his horse. Coop steps in and when the buffalo hunter tries to kill him, he shoots him. Now Doolin’s four brothers are out to even the score.
When they go after Randa, they cross the line. They’re about to find out that’s there’s nothing Coop won’t do, and no one he won’t track down to protect the two females that have burrowed hard and fast into his heart.
A May sun beat hot on Cooper Malloy’s shoulders. He hooked a dusty boot heel on the wooden sidewalk and pulled a creased telegram out of his pocket. The paper, torn in spots from handling, crackled as he unfolded it and read it again. Your sister, Patsy Mae, and her husband have passed. Stop. Your niece, Kalinda Raine, arriving on stage, May 16, 1880. Stop. Sincerely, Montgomery Smith, Attorney-at-Law.
His breath whistled past the lump in his throat. A hot kernel of grief had lodged in his heart when he’d received the telegram a week ago and showed no signs of leaving. What the hell had happened? Even though they’d been married eleven years both Patsy
and George were young, Patsy twenty-eight, George—his childhood best friend—thirty. They’d grown up together in St. Louie. He and George had raised all kinds of hell till he’d got an itch to go west and George fell in love with Patsy.
Thundering hooves and a cloud of dust tore him from his painful reverie. He straightened as the stage pulled into the small town of Mobeetie, Texas.
“Whoa, there,” the black-bearded, wiry driver called out, bringing his team to a stomping, snorting halt. The door swung back against the side of the coach with a thump. A thin, little man hopped out and offered his hand to a lovely young woman with honey-colored hair and doe-brown eyes, her skirt rustling as she descended. Cooper’s gaze coasted past her looking eagerly for his ten-year-old niece

Question #1- What started you on your road to writing?
Answer- I guess I would have to give credit to my 9th grade English teacher, Mr. Reddy. We had an assignment to write a short story about anything. I decided to write a war story about soldiers in battle. There was a slight twist at the end and Mr. Reddy love the story. He said I was way ahead for my age on character description and dialogue. He suggested I consider pursuing a writing career. Of course I did what most kids usually do... I ignored his advice. It wasn't until years later when I was in my late 50's early 60's I returned to writing. I focused on the toughest area to break into... screenplays. I had no luck tying to sell one.
Question #2- What was your inspiration for writing your first novel, "Butterfly Wish"?
Answer- My time serving in the Air Force in South Korea along with my co-author, Rich Marcano. I originally wrote it as a screenplay but had no luck selling it to anyone. After 50 some odd years, Rich Marcano and I hooked up again via the internet. We met out in Las Vegas in 2012. (That's where I lived at the time). After spending a couple of days going down memory lane, mostly about our time in Korea, I mentioned to Rich I had written a screenplay about our experiences in Korea. He asked me why I didn't write a book about it instead? I told him I never wrote a book and had no idea how to do it. He suggested we collaborate and write the book together. He doing most of the research and I doing most of the writing. We decided to try it. It was a challenge because he lived in Brooklyn, New York and I lived in Henderson, Nevada. Thank God for the computer and cell phone. We talked on an almost daily basis. That's the story of how our book "Butterfly Wish" came about.
Question #3- Your second book, "Twice Upon A Time" was just published. What was the inspiration for that story?
Answer- An idea that just popped into my head one day and I couldn't shake it from my mind. I wanted to many times because Rich and I were only comfortable with the Historical Fiction genre. However, my wife wouldn't let me forget it. She said it was a great story because it was so different. So, we decided to write it. It was the hardest story I ever wrote and only time will tell if it was worth it.
This is one of the best historical fiction novels I have read in this bookstore. Available at Amazon books
